Anita Harris Art Pottery Anita Harris was head of design at Poole Pottery in Dorset from 1992 to 2002 when she moved to Stoke on Trent and worked for Cobridge Stoneware and Black Ryden which were part of Moorcroft. Here she met Samantha Johnson and they became firm friends whilst producing some of the most coveted stoneware designs and glaze effects in the country. When Cobridge Stoneware closed in 2005 Anita set up her own studio pottery and went back to her roots using earthenware effect glazes similar to what she used to do at Poole Pottery. Not long after Samantha joined Anita and between them and with the help of Anita's son Peter once again produce some of the best reactive glaze designs and effects in the world. The red glazes used are notoriously difficult and volatile to use but this dream team have perfected the art of the application and firing and are producing the most stunning designs and glasslike finishes you will ever see. These glazes are not easy to paint with as they are very thick so detail is not easy to achieve and the knowledge of how thick to apply the glaze and how to layer them has come from years of experiments. Today Anita Harris Art Pottery is a research and developmental studio as well as a place where ideas can be made into a one off piece of ceramic art that no one else in the world will have. |
