Whitby Jet HistoryWhitby Jet History Ref: jet
Whitby jet is formed from the fossilised remains of Monkey Puzzle trees and is found almost exclusively on the Yorkshire Coast from Runswick Bay to the south of Whitby. It is very light and warm to the touch and very delicate.

With its rich black qualities, jet first became popular as a gemstone during the Victorian times with the accession to the throne of Queen Victoria. Her strict rules governing dress and social behavior in times of mourning were followed by the court and the general public.
