A rare and seldom seen Roman bronze Aes coin of the Emperor Claudius. This coin, which is often called a Claudian imitation, dates to the period directly after the invasion of England in circa 43 AD. It is known that when the Roman Army landed they had a shortage of small coinage, thus local mints were sanctioned by the Roman Army to produce these un-official coins to cover the shortfall. The obverse shows the head of Claudius and the reverse shows Minerva advancing. Size 2.8 CM in diameter.
