An interesting group of Chatel Perronian- Perigordian Tool mounted in a frame. These items which were found at Les Eyzies , Dordogne, France- prior to World War 2, date from 35,000BC- 23,000 BC. Sizes various 7.5 CM - 3.0 CM
The Palaeolithic Chatelperronian period marks the transition in Human evolution From Neandertal to Cro- Magnon / Modern Man.
The tools dating to this period( Circa 35,000-30,000 BC.) show both traditional and new techniques used in flint. The characteristics of the objects are unique : they show a first attempt to blade manufacture ( later developed in the Mesolithic and Neolithic period) combined with the crude stumpy terminations , reminiscent of the earlier Mousterian techniques.
Especially interestinginteresting are the Burins ( Engraving Tools )from this period . They show one distinguished point on the side or at the termination of the tools.
The Chatelperronian was followed by the early Perigordian Period ( circa 30,000-23,000 BC ) in which tools showed hardly any further developement.
